WordPress 3.5 is one of the long anticipated releases in the history of WordPress. There are all sort of rumors about the new features list. Some of them are simply wish lists more than anything else. But today we’re going to take a look at the latest wireframes of the Image Library in the upcoming release of WordPress 3.5. So without any further ado, let’s dig in!

In a recent post by Daryl Koopersmith, he has put together a few screens of how the Media Library will propably look like. There’s a major departure from the current library and adding new media screen. Daryl has stated that he has worked closely with a few of the top core WordPress development and design team when he said:

Over the past week or so, I’ve worked closely with @lessbloat (Dave), @nacin, and @markjaquith to create a set of media workflows that will hopefully serve as a foundation and guide for the improvements in this release.

He was referring to the following screens wireframes and layout suggestions:

So what do you think? Do you think it might be a bit overwhelming for new beginners? Do you think adapting to this new layout will be simple a piece-of-cake? Leave your valuable comments below.

I think this is totally in the right direction. WP’s media library is a bit of pain and hopefully we can make a better use of the new flow and the gallery function in the future.

Although for WP to really give CMS competitors a good fight I would love to see a category/tree-view listing of files, like virtual folders or something. When you have a lot of files the current listing is a bit messy (e.g. I have a client site with over a hundred products listed (CPT), each with 1-3 product pictures and an attached pdf).

I don’t know if this can be done with a plugin (haven’t seen one yet) but the ability to create folders and subfolders would be awesome. Then you can easily categorize your media into stuff like “site structure”, “downloads”, “pdf” etc.

Hi Erik,

Yeah, having virtual folders to organize your media files would be an awesome feature!

Thank you for your comment :)
